
Newsweek has won two awards from the Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) 2010 awards for editorial excellence, the region’s highest honour for the publishing industry.
Newsweek won the Excellence in Investigative Reporting for its article on “The Taliban in their own words” and Excellence in Opinion Writing for “Learning to live with radical Islam”.
In their citation, the judges described Newsweek’s reporting on “The Taliban in their own words” as “a compelling narrative on an issue of enormous importance.” They thought the cover story about “Learning to live with radical Islam” was “excellent and highly relevant to Asia.”
Newsweek has won over 20 SOPA awards since its inception in 1999, and its latest wins come on the heels of Newsweek winning top honours from the American Society of Magazine Editors and the Overseas Press Club.
